Braves Diary (44, 45, & 46/162)

Well, a difference a couple of days makes.

Thursday night wasn’t great. It felt like a missed opportunity to follow up that Mets walk-off win. Fortunately, the past two days have banished those thoughts.

Friday night I had plans as we’re starting to open up on the West Coast. But as I checked updates on my phone the score just kept getting more absurd. The stat you need to know: the Braves went from a -19 run differential on the season to 0. Not bad.

I settled in for a lazy Saturday afternoon. Acuña hit a first pitch homer, because people continue to throw him first pitch fastballs for whatever reason. From there, the offense continued to show encouraging signs of life against this moribund Pirates squad, but then again, you’re supposed to be able to clean up against teams like the Pirates. Bryse Wilson also had his best start of the season, as the rotation continues figure it out.

They’ll go for the series win today.

As Acuña put it after he won the game: “¡Increíble!”

It’s hard to say that something is a “must win” in May during baseball season, but this was about as close it got. Getting swept by the Mets at home definitely would’ve been a major issue. In a game where the offense finally decided to start making some contact with the baseball, they still ultimately scratched and clawed there way back into the game.

They’ll play four more in a row against the Pirates before finally getting an off day.

I felt pretty good after winning the first two games in Milwaukee. It helped too the Mets were losing at the time.

The rails kinda came off on Sunday, though. Sure, Braves almost made a spectacular rally, but apparently this happened after Ynoa had his worst start of the season so far:

Well, Max Fried will be on the hill tonight to follow up his recent good work against those self-same division leading Mets.
